With a characteristic pungent smell (but still trailing garlic in that regard), and its unique ability to make anyone shed tears when shredded, Mr. Onion is still a very good friend to every kitchen around the world. Onions is a very versatile vegetable, it can be eaten in many ways; raw, grated or boiled. Its pungent taste and smell is as a result of the presence of volatile oils and sulphur components.

This wonder working vegetable has a whole lot of health benefits, but the use of onions in most homes has not been effectively exploited, it has only been confined to the four walls of the kitchen.
Here are 6 major health benefits of this wonderful plant, and I am sure that after reading them, your respect for this vegetable would increase.

   1 . ANTIBIOTIC PROPERTIES: Onion is a very potent natural antibiotic. It strengthens the immune system thus helping to ward off several bacterial infections. Chewing an onion bulb first thing in the morning and last thing at night could just do the trick. The onion bulb could also be juiced and taken with water.
